NDT set
NDT methods have a special meaning in the quality evaluation of welded joints. NDT methods offer the possibility to detect discontinuities caused by thermal contraction or fatigue. These discontinuities are often not visible because of their small dimensions and also because they may be closed inside the material in the form of bubbles and are caused by imperfect metallurgical technology.
NDT methods comprise:
1. The Penetration method
This serves in the detection of open discontinuities (blowhole, contraction joint, crack, leak).
Checking by the penetration method is realized with the SPAWCHEM set which consist of:
- cleaner,
- penetrant,
- developer.

It is recommended to apply the developer in an aerosol form because it gives the possibility to spread a uniformly thin layer of powder on the tested surface. However, on demand, 5 l canisters are available.

2. Magnetic particle inspection
This method allows the detection of open discontinuities and also a closed discontinuity. The SPAWMAG Magnetic method set consists of:
- white ground paint,
- magnetic particle suspension,
- white ground remover.
Adequate standard for magnetic particle inspection - DIN EN ISO 9934-2.
3. The Fluorescent penetration method
Currently not available.
